Getting new Mechatronic unit
#21
I have the same car / year as you (only black) and my mechatronic unit failed at 39K. Same symptoms as you mentioned, only the DIS lights came on and indicated transmission failure... towed to the dealership for the fix.....so far seems to be working fine now..

And we're just fortunate the car was still under warranty (I assume yours was with 39k miles), as that would be like a $13k+ repair...

Had the EXACT same problem... but wait... there's more...
when I got my car back, it became clear rather quickly that the ignition wasn't right... it took 2 pushes of the start/stop button to start the car. Same held true when I pushed the key in to activate the ignition system. SO, I brought the car back and after 2 days, I was told that its a KNOWN issue that the mechatronic system doesn't fully communicate with the ignition, and there's NO KNOWN FIX. It BLOWS MY MIND that Audi would release a system that is NOT fully functional. Now, its not a big deal that I have to push the button/key twice. What IS a big deal, is that I have a $70,000 car that doesn't work right AFTER a $17000 repair AND AUDI released a NEW mechatronic system that doesn't work right. THAT IS INSANE!!! I have lost respect for this company. WHAT A JOKE!!!

I got my car back from the dealer after nearly a full month. It took awhile for the new transmission to come from Germany and then because it was a brand new '13 transmission being put in a 2010, there were some other parts and codes that needed to be addressed. I did get the car back after like 3 weeks but my check engine light came on and they had to take it back for another week to replace some other part (can't remember as it's been too long now).
But the car shifts smoother than ever and I really haven't had any issues. No jerkiness at all anymore.

Car is currently in the shop to replace the mechatronics unit under warranty (up to 100k miles thank god) and it has been a week so far. If the new mechatronics unit does not fix the issue they will have to replace the whole transmission. If they do, maybe I'll get lucky and get a '15 transmission

Got my car back with a replaced mechatronic. The clunky shifting is gone, I can barely tell when the car is shifting now.
I also am experiencing the 2-push ignition problem that Knight of Ni wrote about. It seems to be random, sometimes the car starts on the first push and sometimes it takes two. I would rather have this inconvenience than a jerky car, I'm just glad everything is under warranty still.

I've got 80k on the car... my extended warranty expires at around 95k... I'm wondering whether to re-extend it (if that's even possible) or sell it to a dealership and buy a new car... don't think I'd sell it to the public. Way too much of a hassle.

I got rid of my S4 last week. Sick of the issues and the transmission was suffering from the 2-1 downshift. Car would buck into a wall even if your foot was on the brake. Both software and adaptation were both temporary fixes. Both would work for just over a month, but to be honest I felt like it was more km based then time before it would happen again. I'm now in a Q7... I do miss my S4 but don't miss the problems

The US have recalled Audis' for this fault. not in the UK!!!
Ok, so where do I start with this. In 2013 I bought my wife a 2010 Audi Q5 2.0 TDI from an approved dealer in Southport. The car had been perfect up to 2015 when we 1st experienced the dreaded "Mechatronic" fault. The car stalls at junctions and jolts erratically. It hadn't even done 60,000 miles!.
We took it to our local dealer "Hatfield Audi". They did the initial electronic re-set, that they all seem to try.
Explanation - "Audi's have a specific electronic management system (EMS) which enables the car to adapt to other peoples driving styles and this can be what has caused the issue, if someone else has driven the vehicle" (what BS), but six months later the problem was back. We returned the car to Hatfield Audi, & were told the repair would be around £5k. I asked, why Audi had not re-called vehicles for this fault & was told "not enough people have complained"
We asked for an Audi contribution and were outright refused on the basis that we hadn't had the car serviced continually by Audi. Even though we had the car serviced by an independent Audi specialist locally.
When we complained to Audi head office, a lengthy discussion ensued between Audi Head Office and Hatfield Audi. The result was us being told that as the car hadn't had it's "mechatronic gearbox oil changed at 40,000miles then the car was not covered.
Head Office kept using the term "we empower our garages to make their own judgement"....who uses that therm...empower??
When we produced the invoice, clearly showing that we had the oil changed at 40,000 miles, Hatfield Audi went away & came back a week later still saying "No". When we asked head office for their input, we were told it was due to a "component failure" in the vehicle, which was too old to be covered by warranty.
The failure of the component was pre-April 2015, so the car wasn't even 5 years old! No arguing that it breaches the sale of goods act as not being of satisfactory quality or fit for purpose gets us anywhere. Even raising a Section 75 with our credit card company, came to no avail, they said that the supplying dealer had no idea the issue existed at the point of sale so could not be held responsible? They could only help if we could produce documentation that Audi were aware of this fault and had issued a recall or had advertised a recall in the national press & we could provide evidence of such.
Total nonsense. The bottom line....Audi are there to screw you. If you don't pay out £350+VAT for regular servicing via a main dealer (Meaning you'll end up paying for a costly repair anyway over time) they just aren't interested. Despite their vehicles remaining on the road and being dangerous. We have even registered this fault with the DVLA.
To date we are now trying to source whoever we can to get this repair done as trading the car in (knowing there is this issue) Audi or anyone else will knock thousands off the price.
Incidentally, Audi Head Office's pearl of advice was to visit another dealer to see if they would be prepared to make a contribution. Every dealer we have spoken to since want to charge another £250+VAT, just to do a diagnostic - Even though we present them with the original diagnostic provided after many requests - from Hatfield Audi....
So we could end up visiting 100 garages paying £250+VAT a time before we find one who'll help us....by which time it would have cost us more than the car is worth!
Safe to say, we will NEVER be buying another Audi, but any help or advice anyone can give us, would be gratefully accepted as this is been going on over a year now!
I am leaving negative comments on all social media outlets until Audi stand up and accept they have a responsibility to their customers to acknowlesge and repair these vehicles in the UK for minimal charge.

Just went in for my 35k service on Wednesday and mentioned that I've had some excessive jerking in the transmission when going really slow (like stuck in a long line at a stop sign and just inching forward) as well as a hard "clunk" occasionally too (feels like the car is about to stall during the same slow going), and had them check that out. Thought I may need a re-adaptation of the DSG as I've read on some posts here.
But they called and said I need a new Mechatronic unit and it's been special ordered to come on Monday.
Wondering if I'll need to do any kind of 'break in' with this (avoiding high revs, etc) similar to the car being new so I don't mess up the transmission or anything...
