Perhaps the 2017 S4 will come to the US and It's coming sooner than we thought!

Possibly but it's because a key component shared by the S4 and A6 is in short supply and since the S4 is being refreshed they're making what is probably a smart decision and reducing supply in front of likely reduced demand due to pull back in demand that they'll experience from the refresh. I lease but if I were buying I wouldn't want the 2016 as it will underperform for resale value all equal.

There is no refresh - the B9 is a completely new platform. Audi changed the production line over a month ago, and it is not possible (nor desirable) to make the same model on two different platforms.

The first B9 A4 versions arrive in European dealerships (probably not UK cars, which are batch built like US models) next week. The S4 will be available for order from April 2016 for delivery in June - in Europe.

No idea when the US will be able to order, or what "model year" Audi of America will refer to it as.

Fot the S model to appear well within the first year of a new platform is actually faster than normal.

Yes, of course it's a new platform, I misspoke. The specific info I've received is that some '15 production was cannibalized by A6 production. But this is from a manager at a dealership so I don't know what level of understanding he has on the macro-scale.

Do you know the YOY production numbers for '14 and '14 S4's?

No, I don't.

The best place to start drilling around for that sort of information is here, but I doubt whether there will be anything model specific:

https://www.audi-mediacenter.com/en/...n-october-5140

It may have been a specific issue relating to US quotas, in terms of production and/or shipping capacity, etc. As you will see from that linked chart, US has had substantial volume growth 2014 to 2015.

The only obvious shared component (I have a B8 and a C7) is the 3.0TFSI. But this remains available in the S5 (and S5 Sportback in many other markets), as well as a number of other model platforms.

When Audi prepare for a new platform, they pull the existing RS variants first, then the S variants, whilst the A versions change "overnight" in terms of ordering. The RS4 (which I realise you don't get in the US) was pulled 6 months ago, the S4 in September. The RS5 went a month or so back, which indicates to me that the new B9 A5 platform will be out in 5 months
