Help Convince me to buy a 2015
Im an A3 diesel owner - been shopping around a bit thinking about what the replacement will be.
I've come across 2 different new 2015 S4s, w/ Tech package MSRP at about $55250.
Dealers are willing to go to $44975 - great deal.
I also thought about waiting for the 2017 - which would certainly cost MUCH more.
Is this a deal good enough you'd buy a 2015 at this sunset of the B8?

The 2017 will have more HP and a different interior. (I didn't say better) No DSG or 6MT trans available. It will cost you more and not really be a better vehicle. I don't want one. I'm now on my 3rd B8/8.5 s4 and still love it as much as the day I got my first one. IT is a great car. No 2016 leftovers?(virtually no difference between 2015 and 2016 models) Btw, if either of the cars you are looking at are 6MTs, grab it . There are no more NEW S4s left to buy with a 6MT. And they are not making any more! BTW, I hope one of the available s4s has the sport dif. If so, you want that. I would rather have a new Jaguar XE than a B9 S4

I was just in a similar situation. The only convincing i needed was a test drive. The comfortable yet supportive seats, beautiful interior layout, intuitive mmi, "light on it's feet" handling, and down low torque were major selling points. The gorgeous sepang blue paint didnt hurt either
I still really want an s7 or rs7, but this s4 is really a blast!

Decisions decisions!
I had my first S4 before the children came along. It was fine until they began to grow and my wife's vehicle options were impacting my options. A3 to S4 would be a nice move and gives you a tad bit more (comfy) passenger room. My teens fit OKAY in my S4 rear, but if comfort is a must, my wife's SUV is our choice.
I love the S4 dynamics: size/weight, power, performance, luxury, and features. I THINK it is the pivoting point where larger vehicles need so much more power to deliver the same road experience and they won't do it as nimbly! The A3 would be a tight traffic dream - small and quick enough to slip in/out without the gas-gulping penalty that a larger car would have. The S4 does this well too! Besides, once you get into Audi 6-8 series, you HAVE TO drive as stately as the vehicle is(sport luxury). I hope we are perceived as luxury sport drivers in the 3-5 series!
If you get the 2017, I will PM you in a few years... I like blue or white... Or gray!

My wife's a4 barely has room for a cpl bags of grocery bags in back seat. I couldn't imagine riding back there or anyone else. Maybe a small child. I'd at least get a A4Sline or S6. Go with the 8L with 4.0T and you'll be happy with the room inside and performance under the hood

So, the size of the S4 is a consideration...
… as the back seat is relatively small.
However, if the size is OK, I couldn't recommend the S4 more strongly - especially the B8.5 (such as the 2015). We have had nine Audis and the S4 has been the best balance of performance and usability. It is unclear from your post how it will be used, but we came out of two A6's that were wonderful, but ponderous in the canyons. The S4 was the best compromise for us. There are certainly legitimate reasons to wait for the 2017, but the current S4 has had all of the bugs worked out, the aftermarket parts are discounted and it should be a relatively trouble-free ownership experience.
I also like the S6, but it plays a different role. If my wife was not such a fan of the canyons on weekends we would likely have and S6 and an RS5, but the S6 has a longer wheelbase and a different mission.
