Default HomeLink receiving antennae location

I have 2 garage doors that I can operate from a 2-button LiftMaster 372LM controller/fob. Today, I decided to give HomeLink another try and to set it up for my garage doors. I followed instructions but things got fuzzy around the part where I am supposed to place my transmitter "close to the front grille". No matter how I tried, I could not get HomeLink to capture the synchronization codes from the remote until suddenly it worked when I put the transmitter in-front of the driver-side headlight. This is when I got the long awaited triple-blink.

Does this mean that the HomeLink receiving antennae is mounted on the driver side in the front or was it just a coincidence? My mechanic says that the antennae is in the fin on the roof. But I could not sync it up when I put the transmitter close to the fin either. Or does the fin house the HomeLink transmitting antennae and I got confused?

Finally, I have both openers programmed into HomeLink but I'm a little disappointed because I don't fully understand how I managed to do it. I am sure that the openers required different order of steps to get synced, even though they are of the same model.

Anyway, where is the HomeLink *receiving* antennae is located in 2011 S4?

Its in the middle of the grille near the top of the radiator. Open the hood, you will see it. Depending on what type/brand of opener you have, it can be really frustrating to get it to work. And the instructions given in the owners manual are not alway correct for every application. I had to get another forum member with better computer skills than I possess, to get mine programmed. But it can be done. BTW, I have a Genie opener which generates a random rolling code. If all else fails, call Homelink or the company that made the opener

Thank you, DrGP! I was able to get both openers programmed but I cannot reproduce the steps and I'm sure I had to do different things for opener 1 and opener 2, even though they are of the same model. Weird. I will experiment with the remaining third button to see if I can reliably and repeatably reproduce it.

I've had similar experiences with remotes and homelink. I found the best solution was to drive out of range of the garage door opener and try the programing there.

Also make sure your opener does not have LED bulbs! CFLs will work but best use regular incandescent bulbs. Who would have thought?

Is the transmitter under the hood too or at the overhead console?

Judging from the way you program it, I'd say under the hood!

The last I've heard from the mechanic is that the receiving antennae (used to train HomeLink) is behind the front grille, while the transmitting antennae is in the fin on the roof.
