Default 2012 or wait for 2013

I'm torn between ordering a 2012 S4 and waiting 3 months to get it or waiting till next May and ordering a "refreshed" 2013.

If I order the 2012, I'd likely get it in November with the roads starting to get snowy/icy. Slapping winter tires on a new S4 and having to baby it all winter to keep it on the road seems like a bit of a tease. I also really like the looks of the Ti package, but the dealers here told me they can't order anything with Ti at the moment.

If I wait to order the 2013, what's first opportunity you can order the next years model? I've heard pricing and options usually come out in late April or May. Seems like I could get a 2013 in July/August and still have 3 or 4 more months of great weather to enjoy the car.

The refreshed A5/S5 pictures look pretty sweet, the spy shots floating around show similar changes to the A4/S4 so I think i'd be happy with the styling. The other factor is resale, assuming there is a B9 released in the next three or four years. The 2012 model would have the refreshed 2013 and the new model available which would drop the value of the 2012 in 3 or 4 years time. Not that i think i'd be interested in selling the car, but I think it should be considered just in case.

It's a beautiful car, i'm sure i'll be happy either way I go, but i'd appreciate any opinions.

IAA is next week in Frankfurt, and I suspect Audi will show the new A4/S4 body, as they are also showing the S6, S7 and S8.

A year is a long time to wait.

Default I don't like the new "S" body ... Techo Look w/ hard edges

I was waiting for the new A6. When I saw the new A6 with the Techno look and hard edges, I said "Nahhh no way". The aura of elegance is gone, so I went with the S4. Even the beautiful S5 is now replaced with that new Techno look. Only the new A7 looks great. I hope they don't screw up the refreshed S4. But seeing the new S5, I'm cringing at how the new S4 will look like.

Here's the new 2013 S5. The 2010-2011 looks better.

It's not as good lookin, and sometimes it reminds me of the new Ford Taurus techno look.

And oh yeah, who can guarantee prices? They might increase prices - the 2012 S4 had a higher price than the 2011 S4.

I agree the 2013 S5 is a step backwards, and the next S4 will probably follow along similar lines.

I will wait to see them in person to make full judgement. Audi's don't photograph well to me. I hated the A7 in pictures and loved it in person.

One things for sure, the fully redesigned S4/S5 B9 (2014 or 2015 I'm guessing) will certainly look similar to the 2013 model. They are not going to throw out the design completely. We will have to see though.

There will always be something "better" next year........no matter when you pull the trigger.

Sadly, no refreshed A4/S4 debut at Frankfurt this year.

I agree with that sentiment. If you can, try and find a car on a lot with the options you're looking for. That's probably going to be the only way you'll be able to get a Ti package car unless you wait until early 2012 or until the '13 models come out.

I'm hoping that they don't change the S4 style until 2014. If they change it in 2013 and it looks anywhere like the S5 new style, I will get the S4 next year for sure.

It depends on how close to what your perfect S4 would be.

Is that the color you wanted or something you like but if you could have your choice be black or monsoon etc? Did you want the 6MT and have to settle for the DSG?

If you would have major changes in a car that you would order compared to this car I would wait and order something. From the day you pick that car up till the day you sold it you will question the buy. Not to mention in the meantime everytime you see a S4 with your color you'll watch it go by like a 21 YO blonde college student!

To me looks are part of the reason you buy a specific car...I would also consider a possible upgrade to the center diff, possible updated MMI/ Nav with google earth, etc.
