Default Is it Just mines or is s4's piece of crap

Don't get me wrong the s4 is a great car overall. I Purchased my first s4 in October it was a used 2010 P+ dsg apr stage 1 with 39,000 i loved the car it's still my baby but since owning it for 4 months with now 48,000 miles i had to the replace a motor mount due to leaking in December. couple weeks ago on my way to work i lost power steering while on the freeway due to my crankshaft pulley failed and came apart and shredded my drive belt and now last night after work get in my car start driving not even 5 mins into my drive my gearbox is malfunctioning. Its goes go on one gear then when it shifts to the next gear there like 3 second lag til it catches the gear. It sucks because it's really changing the way how i feel with this car and Audi. I been in touch with a rep from AoA and i'm taking the car into the dealer this Thursday to see what there going to do for me since i express to them that this might be my first and last audi which is a shame since i really enjoyed this car before the problems.

Did you have the car completely checked out by an Audi tech before purchase in Oct? I would think there's some risk to buying a used, high performance Audi that's been ECU modified - you never know just how hard the car was driven. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, AoA will do for a used, modded car well outside of warranty.

Its you. I'm on my 3rd B8 S4. Other than normal things that wear out, like brakes, tires , & battery , my 3 cars have needed little. 2010 had the WP issue that all 2010s had. 2010 did let me stranded twice with the WP and punctured IC radiator. But I made made a DIY screen protector. Only had the 2014 for 5K mile with no issues. Current 2011 which I bought at 49k miles had the need for brakes, rotors, tires and battery. Other than that, things have been good. Best cars I have ever had in my 50 yrs of driving. and I have had a lot of cars, including BMWs and Lexus.

Yea i Purchased the car from the audi dealer at the time i didn't know much about ecu upgrades til i started more research and started seeing how it void warranties and it reliability issues. I really don't want to give up on this car cause like "drGP" is on his 3rd as many other on this forum i really enjoyed the car when at its best i got the 45k maintenance on time trying to stay on top of maintenance i seen there alot of 2010 that had common problems i just hope there a way out of this without giving up on the s4 cause it is a great car i know it had one owner before me some dude from the army so i'm hoping for the best this Thursday cause honestly i want to stay in an s4.

Very sorry to hear about your troubles....My '13 has been good to me thus far. I did, however have water pump leak, repaired under warranty. I'm now at 76,xxx miles. I hope this car lasts a while, I hear the next generation S4 is no longer available with a manual transmission.

you're getting hit with common B8 problems a small percentage of s4 owners face. sucks to be happening all at once. good luck op.

The others are minor, the transmission issue is scary. DSG's seem like their starting to go with regularity.

2010 is a troubled year for the S4. Those were the first/early years of a lot of new advanced technologies such as the DSG and sport diff. If you have the sport diff, it may be the next thing to go and then you are looking at a $10k+ repair if I remember correctly. On top of that the car is tuned, stressing the already known faulty parts even more. I believe Audi has a repair kit to fix the transmission now, but the fix used to be a new transmission at the tune of several thousand $s. I doubt Audi can do anything for you. Your original warranty has expired and since the car was tuned you don't have CPO warranty either. If the car was sold to you CPO, then you have some leverage to get the dealer/Audi to buy it back, because tuned cars cannot be certified, so if they sold you a certified tuned car, they sold you a bill of goods. The issues you are having are all known issues with your model year as far as I know. First/early model year issues affects pretty much the entire auto industry. I would never buy a used first/early model year of anything. I usually buy my cars at the midcycle refresh, which is MY2013 for the S4.

As superswiss pointed out, you might have some action against the dealer as I would think they would be required to disclose the ECU was modified in writing at tiime of purchase (verbal wouldn't do). Or they did and you just didn't pay attention to the disclosure and it's ramifications?
