New Here - Please help with an easy question I think...?
Wife and are about to purchase a 2012 S4, but it doesn't have the push button start. However, it does have the tech where you walk up to it and can have it unlock by pressing the button or whatever on the door. The car is automatic.
We are getting a good deal on it, but I was wondering before I buy it, if I'd be able to purchase the OEM start button and hopefully the harness/wiring loom would be there to tie into or plug into.
He said right now it just has like a plastic fob or something that only requires you to have the key in your pocket to start the car, but you still have to turn it like you would a key in the ignition.
Does anyone have any insight on this? I tried searching, but didn't have too much luck...

Wow I have tried researching this all over the place on google and on all the forums and I can't seem to find any answer about installing the OEM start button to a premium plus packaged S4.. agh

A word of caution...
My wife and I share our S4 and RS5 back and forth depending upon if anyone is carrying more than one passenger. The automatic key and start button are delightfully convenient, but we have, all too many times, taken off to our prospective jobs (at opposite ends of the city), only to find we have the wrong key with us. Typically, we will see the key warning light, but it requires turning around and meeting somewhere. Now perhaps my advanced age has gutted my frontal cortex and you "whipper snappers" don't suffer such brain fades… but, when you have to put a key in a slot - this never happens. After four "keyless" Audi's it is happening much less often, but we both try to remember to at least use the key slot. I have inquired to Audi about a master key system that would allow an owner to operate all of his VW/Audi/Porsche cars with one key - but that is not in the cards (for obvious reasons).
Good luck…

This is extensive.
You need to check first that you have the right convenience module. It needs pins in the slot in the top left corner (bottom left when installed). You can find it in the right hand room in the trunk.
Then you need to wire cable from the start-stop button to the convenience module. If you also want the keyless function to work, you need 3 antennas, sensors in the door handles and wires to the convenience module. Plus it requires parameterization of the module.
And finally new keys as your standard keys do not support keyless go.
