Radar detectors

I've had different escorts and the V1 and the V1, while sensitive, was useless to me in how much it falsed. If there is more noise than signal than a device is not going to work. With the 9500i that I now have, as soon as it goes off I hit the brakes...period. I know it is a cop. With the V1 you have to see what band it was, how many bogeys and if you are in the city...forget it. There can be 8 bogeys at the same time showing up falsing like crazy. With V1, the way to avoid this is to custom program it basically turning off bands altogether...or run an app on your phone with it???
Now the latest escort, the max 360 has GPS and arrows so there is really no use for the V1 anymore. It remembers falsing locations, gives your speed cameras and speed trap areas, etc etc.

Did you see my response two panels up???
I think my V1 is about 20 (yes twenty...it's an estimate) years old. It's been a faithful servant and still works pretty well...except for the side assist thing on the new car, which is almost unbearable.
I'm about ready to give up and replace it, and evaluating the options. I 've been hoping Car and Driver or similar pub will do an updated test on these things 'soon'. It's been quite a while and tech has been changing.
The old V1 will end up in another car I guess

I do also have the latest Escort Solo 3 which I carry when traveling for rental cars, test drive cars from the dealership or am in a friends car.
In summary, the side assist is easily solved…

OP, just keep in mind that the person in the video had to completely disable POP ( a kind of radar) to get the V1 to be quiet in their own driveway and to keep them quiet in town you pretty much have to disable K band too. These are two radars you are now completely naked to seeing. If you want to catch a speed camera or RL camera you are out of luck too. You need gps capability for that. V1 does not have this. Just food for thought.

V1 installed in AUDI A6
Thanks much for this tread - was able to solve the issue with side assist and got my wife's V1 hard wired.
For those interested - on the 2016 A6 - hard wiring thought the mirror using Black/Red in Pin 1 as Positive, and Brown in Pin 2 as Ground.

As far as Radar detectors - I have had two Valentine Ones - one of them is 16 years old and still going strong, wife had the "new" one that is 7 years old... good technology that works that long will always have my vote. Going to have to buy one for my Audi TT - I WILL buy another Valentine 1 hands down.
IT JUST WORKS!!!

I replaced an old V1, which just falsed way too much, with an Escort Max 360. Much less falsing, still have the arrows, and I love the GPS auto learning.
