I would personally go with the 4.2L V8...but that's just me. Love the growl, something you can't get out of a V6 even with exhaust. That's really the only positive about the V8 though...if you are wanting more performance and/or to mod, go with the V6 S4.

The stock exhaust on the b6/b7 s4 OR b8 S5 is nothing great. With an exhaust,the B8 S4 doesn't sound bad .The 4.2 v8 with an aftermarket exhaust sound heavenly. But IMHO, the sound of the exhaust does not make up for other short comings.

Oh, I completely agree with you! A B8 S4 with an exhaust is very nice, and of course the modability is great as well. It all comes down to personal preference, and I prefer the V8

Having had both, I would never again want to own an Audi with the 4.2V8. IMHO, the 3.0 SC is so much better. But you can like the 4.2 if you choose.
