Squealing sound - Brake pads
Brakes are making a squealing/rinding sound when the car is about to stop....
Pads are OEM (~30K miles) and no visual indication that they are fully worn out.
Any ideas what to do to stop the noise until the brake light goes off indicating it is time to change?
If change is needed, do I have to change the rotor as well or just the pads? What pads should I buy? (front and rear).

Extremely common problem, nearly everyone has experienced this with the OEM pads and rotors, especially on cold mornings. There are a couple other threads out there that may have solutions in them. I just ignore it.

On my 2010, they took off the pads, beveled the edges and put some goop on the back of the pads. When I picked it up, they handed me an Audi propaganda pamphlet explaining why they squeal. Basically say it is about the compound used on the pads. And to use a compound that wouldn't squeal would compromise the braking performance????

Easy enough to upgrade to another brand of pad if you didn't want to go to dealer.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one... Wondering if they can change mine under the warranty as well.... Going for service in 30 days or so.
Thank you

I think Audi has made some design changes on the brakes due to all the complaints. BTW, I just replaced fronts and rears on my 2011. Put on Stoptek ceramics. Got tired of all the brake dust.

Glad (I guess) to hear this is "normal"?
My A4 didn't squeak at all, but the my S5 does now. It's new to me, bought it a week ago and the brakes are driving me crazy!
So I will upgrade those to Hawk. ECS is actually having a sale right now if anyone is interested.
