The S4 is using a single turbo, twin turbo is for RS4 and R8 of which one is supposedly an electrically driven charger, as per the new 4.0TDI V8 used in the SQ7.

But you may be right in that they are having some issues with finalising the engine development, but suspect this may only be minor optimisation of transmission and engine mapping. They need to complete that before they can do certification. The German website indicates they are waiting for certification.

Putting it back to September may just mean they preferred to wait until after the August shutdown period, rather than start just prior?

Regardless of whether this is the cause of the delay or not, I would wait at least a couple of model years before buying... Less of a concern with leasing, but even in that case, who wants to deal with the inevitable recalls and TSBs...

The B9 S4 has completely new V6 turbo engine, with cast iron cylinder liners, reverse flow heads with exhaust manifold integrated into the heads & exiting in the center hot-V. The new Audi S4 Sedan and Avant - AudiWorld

From the German website,it sounds like it has not passed certification.

"In regard to availability: The Audi S4 sedan is not yet configured. It is expected to be ordered to a basic price of 59,300 euros from summer 2016th we will inform you in good time about the exact implementation date. "

I thought Audi had extended experience with designing/building turbo charged engines. Does evidence exist regarding a large number of recalls/TSBs for new turbo engines?

It is well known that any car that is a first generation with new and improved mechanicals will have issues. Case in point, VW's MK5 GTI and MK6 GTI. The old 2.0L FSI engines had issues when it came out until it got replaced with the new 2.0L TFSI engine. You would think that all would be well with a new generation improvement but some issues needed to be ironed out within its first two years of existence.

Also, it depends on the parts supplier. Car manufacturers continue to demand cheaper car parts which will result in them compromising quality. These compromises mostly become the early adoption headaches.

Some early adoption headaches are due to parts design or the engine/tranny design.

That translation isn't quite right. According to the audi rep I talked with today (who speaks German) it says the S4 is not available to be configured ... basically there is no configurator for it yet.

Wow!!! Now that doesn't sound very promising. Maybe my dealer's feedback to me was correct (post #1) "2017 orders for a MY2018 B9 S4." Yuck!!!

Well that sounds much better than what my high volume dealer in AZ told me (post #1)

Anyone know when at least the B9 S4 Build Sheets will be available to the USA dealers?
