Is it too early to ask what kind of discount off MSRP to shoot for?

Just wondering. Also, if you get the ACNA discount, it that all you can expect to get?

Depends on the inventory. When I ordered my 2018 a last month dealer at the time was not willing to give a discount. Thought he Sales Rep was good and said they would re-address if possible when the car gets in.

Here is where we are with our dealer. 6% +$750 off. The S cars have, historically, been offered with the lowest discount -- sometimes the discount is $1000.
This discount is with the ACNA paperwork. Considering that the first S4 arrived at the dealership and "lasted" 3 days, I get the reluctance (and the necessity) to discount.
Insofar as MORE than the ACNA discount -- I would assume the dealer, should they want, can discount any amount THEY determine makes sense. If they seem to believe 8% would be prudent (for them, for whatever reason), why not?
The thing is, there is NO reason for the discount to be offered based on supply and demand. At some point, perhaps, the cars will be discounted more than 6%. Who knows when that will be, however.
Some models -- the Q7 for instance -- are currently NOT eligible for the ACNA % off.
Probably the R8 will always be excluded from the list. At some price point, if 6% or 8% would change your mind, well, perhaps the car isn't for you after all.
Of course we all want "the best deal" possible. We all want the most "off" we can get. But, if you're looking at a car that is north of $60K and an additional $600 or $1200 off would make you buy vs not buy, well maybe that is a clue that there is something other than the discount that is putting you off.
If you can get a $60K car for $3600 off or $4200 off and you would walk if all you can get off is 6%, I submit the car's price is not the issue -- it is something else.
I will try to get the most off I can -- the dealer will try to sell the car for the least off possible. The dealer will probably win -- especially with an Audi S car -- demand, typically, exceeds supply of these models.
Nice problem to have.
Of course, the S's are often "allocated" which means they take whatever cars they can get and sell them with as little discount as possible.
The $750 extra is a "loyalty" bonus -- beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, don't you think?

Thanks for that thorough reply, Mark. Just to be more clear... walking away is not an option. Walking to next dealer may be. I haven't started yet. Last S4 I bought, a B8.5, I sent an email to dealer offering invoice+$500 to order one way ahead of release. "Sure!", they said - much to my surprise.

I plan on buying an S4 later this year, is the potential ACNA discount temporary or will it be available throughout the year? I know it may be hard to predict, I just was wondering what is typical.

Just keep an eye on the excluded models.
