I've been reading all of the tip stuff with great interest--always the case when one's own is heading south...
I have an '01 Allroad with the following: K04's, gutted downpipes, GIAC chip, GIAC Tip chip. I've gone through all the typical Audi maintenance stuff from 80,k on...the car now has 107,k and the trans is schizophrenic. It seems to delay about 3 secs before going into reverse. There are 2 'shifts' once in 2nd gear. When approaching a stop it is very rough coming down through the gears. It seems to run a higher RPM now once in 5th--I don't remember before, because she drove it extensively for the last two years.
From what I'm reading,I def have a TC issue; hence the delay going into reverse and the higher R's at speed.
But I am also wondering about the multi-shift sensation in 2nd gear.
Bottom line: I have an extended warranty and they will cover. I'd like suggestions as to what to go back in with. I've heard L10 is having reliability issues, I have no clue what a rebuilt Tip is going to run and whether or not it will cover the torque converter--is it treated separately?
Any help would be great.
On another note, at this mileage, I know I should be thinking about replacing some of the control arms--we replaced one on the left front--I am feeling looseness, sloppiness, lack of control in the right front--not gross, but I have a sense that it is going. At this rate, does it make sense just to go through the front and rear suspension and get squared away? The car also has Hotchkiss bars and ultimately, I would like to go non-airbag suspension route. Is there an update on the cost and performance satisfaction from any other A/R's out there?
I'm not made of money and will be doing much of the suspension stuff myself--have a lift. The trans I will leave to someone else.
Do any of you know who in the Chicago area is capable of the Tip stuff? I've used both CPT and GRD--GRD did the turbo's...and did okay.
Lastly, I realize going to a six speed makes many of these situations disappear. If anyone knows of a nice 6spd A/R for sale, please feel free to let me know. Thanks!
