Are all Audis 50-state emissions certified?
I'm buying an out-of-state S4 and I know I can't bring in a car that's not 50-state emissions certified. We all know how damn strict CARB is here in Cali!
TIA, guys.

I just brought in a car from NY to CA.
The car was completely stock and passed with flying colors. The F'd part is the 8.5% tax + all the fees. I got raped for $1300 bucks by the DMV just to get the thing registered. BTW that was based on a 15K "purchase" price...if you know what I mean ;-) F'ing California!

I grought a FLA car to CA...
It didn't have the sticker for some reason, but they still registered it in Ceres. I even passed smog with APR downpipes/Cats (which are now for sale BTW--e-mail me if interested). Only had to pass Federal standards because it was from out of state, and will only need to pass fed as long as the car is here. Apparently, CA got sued several years ago for gouging everyone coming into CA with a $300 "SMOG FEE" (which I had to pay on 2 vehicles and ended up getting refunded). Good luck...

Egadz! Now I'm wondering if its even worth buying an out-of-state car!!!
$1300?!?!? You gotta be kidding. Thats some BS right there...I wonder if this was before Arnold restored order with those ridiculous sky-high registration fees.

Yes...the expensive part is the purchase tax
You'd have to pay it on a new car too. Thats why the car "cost" 15K. I could'nt go any lower with out raising eyebrows. I'd of said 5K if I could, but I think an S4 Avant with 11K on the clock for 5 grand would have looked a bit suspicious.

So when you went to DMV to register it...
you just put in $15K as the purchase price? They didn't ask for any proof on its actual purchase price? This is good info...Thanks.

Uh...well...
No, "officially" I would never intentionally mislead a Government agency! ;-/
I did all my DMV work through AAA (highly recomended BTW...in and out in 30 min.)and they give you a DMV form that asks for the "value" or "purchase price" of the car you are registering. There was no request for a verifiable proof of value or for that matter a noterized bill of sale (I was shocked at that). I put down the "purchase" price as was requested by the form and also stated that the sale had not occured prior to 20 days (if it had there are big penalities). Keep that in mind BTW they might not inform you of that little detail!
