Bad chain tensioner
The chain tensioner(s) are going bad (100k miles) now.
Do I need to change the the pads only, or the entire tensioners?
What is involved to do the work?
Front clip off
timing belt covers off
timing belt off
intake etc. off
valve covers off
remove cams

That's right, basically a full timing belt job plus pulling the cams. You probably should do the cam seals too. My guess is that you'll need to replace the entire tensioning element, not just the pads.
