Default Car mechanic purgatory, advice please

About two months ago my car started spewing watery discharge with black specks out of the exhaust , and a strange smelling smoke. the engine was also lurching RPM wise and seemed like it was going to die. this was after just starting it in the garage. I had it towed to the mechanic I use (not the dealership) who admittedly isn't well-informed on s4s but he is a solid mechanic on Porsches. I trust him.

He couldn't get on it for a week and once he did he was stumped, he couldn't identify what was burning based on the smell so he told me he was burning different chemicals to see if he could duplicate it. I didn't put any pressure on them and soon enough a month had passed without any progress. Eventually he came to the conclusion a Turbo was gone, and that's where we were until last week when they informed me that the engine was out but they couldn't tell which Turbo was blown, and so now they don't even know where to go from here. I'm sure that I am on the hook for hundreds of dollars here should I decide to move it to the dealership so ideally I would like them to fix it themselves, but this has been way too long to go without a car and I need it back.

Default Wow, that's pretty crazy. What kind of boost levels were you seeing right before you took it in?

Anything abnormal? Dentist drill? Anything else? Had you not driven it for a while? My first guess would have been that you just had some carbon build up that you were blowing out. Of course, that would more likely happen at high rpm, but if it sat for a long time, it's possible.

No it came out of the blue, I had driven it the night before with no problems, I hadn't driven it through rain or anything either. I can't say about the boost levels because I don't have a gauge. But one thing that is particularly bad about this situation is that they are K04 turbos that were replaced right before I bought it 10,000 miles ago.
