Mostly text inner tie rod end replacement pep talk.
This isn't as bad as it seems at first, and can be done with hand tools.
Safely raise car to desired working level. (high enough to remove wheel.)
Remove wheel.
Remove two bolts holding tie rod end to suspension upright.
In this poor pic, outer tie rod end is on the far left, slightly cut off.

Next loosen lock nut for toe adjustment.
It's the silver nut in this picture:

If you have an S4 and your existing outer tie rod end has rubber in it like this picture, !you have the wrong part!
Once you have this loosened, knock out the tie rod end from the suspension upright.
Next, unscrew tie rod end from adjuster/inner tie rod end completely.
With this out of the way, remove small clamp on end of protective inner tie rod boot, (looks like a bellows, kinda)
Now, look at pic one, see the hole the boot comes out of? it's a plastic access cover, find the small 10mm nut and the two jesus clips, and remove the cover.
With this out of the way, look way down inside and find the one time use clamp that holds the boot onto the rack. If you don't have a replacement clamp, stop now and get one. If you do, remove the clamp, then firmly but gently pull the protective boot off. If there are no cracks or rips, reuse the boot at your own discretion.
A clean working environment is a must at this point, wash your hands and keep the area clear of grit.
Turn steering wheel to the side opposite of that you are working on. This will extend the steering rack and give you room to do the next step.
If you have the proper tools, great. otherwise grab two crescent wrenches.
Put one wrench on the provided flats on the steering rack rod itself. Put the other on the inter tie rod end, this will be about 1 1/2" and have _8_ sides. Tightening torque is 70ft/lb, so be careful to keep twisting load transmitted to the rack while loosening and tightening to a minimum.
Once the end is off, prelube the inner joint and the protective boot sealing surfaces with audi steering rack grease.
Assembly is the reverse of disassembly. Both sides are nearly the same.
