diagnostic help for DIY noob
My 2001 s4 makes a noise similar to the old baseball card in the bike spokes trick. Its been going on for the last couple years. I first noticed it after a new set of tires and assumed it was the tire. I recently bought a new set of winter tires expecting the noise to go away but it hasn't. It sounds like it is coming from the passenger side rear and it varies with wheel speed. I have noticed that when I turn the wheel in a left turn or arc the noise is dramatically reduced. turns to the right have the opposite effect.
Should I be looking at a wheel bearing, suspension components, something else?
Thanks in advance!

It is very likely a CV joint, either inner or outer. Check your joint boots to see if they are torn, and rotate the wheel back and forth by hand and observe the axle for slop in a joint.
