Default DIY thermostat replacement

If I have time (i.e. a saturday), and am technically comptent - can I do this without removing the timing belt? I would have the dealer do it - but it'll cost well over $500 from searching the forum. I have 56k on my 2k S4, should I just do it all with the ECS kit. Advice? I am comfortable removing the bumber etc... Just wondering how difficult it is to do this. Anyone attempt it? Thanks

Default The thermostat can not be done without removing the water pump IIRC...

It would not hurt to just go ahead and do a timing belt job. With all of the tech articles and forum archives their is a wealth of information that should cover every step.

Default you need specific tools such as the cam bar to do the timing belt, but not that difficult.

you can't replace the thermostat w/out removing the timing belt. but you can do it without removing the water pump iirc, although its highly recommended to replace everything once you're in there.
