Default Doing some research: Those who have had waterpumps fail:

Which water pump were you running, the plastic impeller or the metal impeller?
What was the cause of the failure?

I just had my metal impeller waterpump fail due to a bad bearing after 30k. I replaced it with a plastic impeller, because it was the only option at the time. I'm weighing the advantages/disadvantages of the metal impeller waterpump.

Thanks

Default I would be more interested to know who the manufacturer of the failed pump was.....

I'm fairly certain my original pump had a plastic impeller, will look at it tonight. It went to 70K without issue. My replacement pump from PureMS had a plastic impeller, made by Graf I believe.

Any chance you may have put excess axial force on the pulley / shaft when it was installed? I can't think of any other installer faults that would result in premature failure, save for perhaps dirty coolant.

So most likely the bearing seal failed and let grease out or coolant in. Glad it didn't seize!

My metal one failed after 20k. I got an OEM plastic one now.

Confirmed, my OEM was plastic; can't tell what vendor, looks like some type of 'K' symbol.
