Default ECS LW Flywheel/Pilot bearing install

Got the ECS lw flywheel on a whim (along with tons of stuff for my rebuild project) only to find it comes with the pilot bearing out and a flywheel washer/shim. So, I searched the forums and the interwebz but didn't find anything specific. Before I try this myself and somehow open a portal to another dimension, releasing the dark lord Cthulhu and heralding 1000 years of darkness, I thought I'd post here:

1. Installing the pilot bearing: Dry? With a little grease? Is a press required or can I just smash it in there with a socket and a hammer?

2. This washer thing: WTF? What side does it go on? Between the flywheel and the crank is my guess but I'd hate to have it installed only to find the washer goes between between the flywheel and the clutch/pressure plate assembly.

Thanks!

Default Satisfy the Gods

Looked in the manual:

1.) Pilot bushing can be driven in with drift. Sounds like socket would work.

2.)Washer is #2 in photo Shim is #1 take measurement on flywheel and should average 12.3mm.

Hope this helps

I am also thinking the washer should go under the head of the bolts to keep them from digging into the soft aluminum when you torque them but I would also give ECS a call.

Pilot bearing:
* put it in a zip lock bag and into freezer for at least 15 minutes or until it gets completely frozen. It will shrink and will go in easier.
* use a socket that matches outer race diameter and punch the bearing in.

FW/Shim:

* measure how much bolts stick out on the stock FW.
* put new bolt through new FW and measure how much the bolt is sticking out. Absolutely don't allow it to stick any more than stock bolt in stock FW, even couple of mm might destroy crankshaft bearing.
* I believe the shim is not for adjusting the bolt thread grab depth but to move the FW face to proper offset and where the PP ends. I might be wrong but you need to 100000% confirm this with them! Any change in where PP fingers end up will alter throw out bearing's ability to disengage clutch.

Thanks julex - I contacted ECS and was surprised when they basically told me they didn't have any install instructions. Based on what you and Texas Twin posted here I think I know how it goes together.

I should be getting the engine back from the shop today so hopefully I can start reassembly this weekend.
