I know. I was just saying. Not a bad price, but...

I always question how these small places do them for so little; OEM parts are going to run up to $350-$400.

1st: I wonder what brand parts they use, if they are OEM, audi, or aftermarket.

2nd: I wonder if they are poping the sprokets and using the locking tools, or if they are making alignment marks based on your last timing belt alignment.

3rd: Did they replace the tensioner?

4rd: Are they replacing the aux ribbed belt for that price?

These are questions you should ask when getting your work done by others.

Half the reason the dealer is so expensive is based on thier pricing, you will have over $500 in parts.

I'm sure they can do it in 3 hours as well. But they charge by book time @$100.

Did they give you a break down of all the parts?

For all that, pretty amazing price.

Too bad in California, everybody charges the "going rate" which is $900 - $1200. Even the good guy mechanics will not go under since that is the going rate... It sucks.

I suppose that doesn't sound too bad if he can do it in 3hrs. $345 for the kit leaves $345 in labor. At 3 hrs per job thats $115/hr.

That part that impresses me is that he does it in 3hrs. I suppose I'm a lot slower just because its my car and I don't do this for a living.

Wonder if there's a way to change the timing belt without pulling the nose off? That would certainly speed things up.
