The Frankenturbo's have been available for such a short time I don't think it's fair to judge what they're capable of just yet. Aside from VAST, whom seem to be mainly interested in sales volume versus dialed in tunes, I haven't seen results from the other main tuners. Not saying that in the end they won't prove to just be a cheaper alternative to K04's, but I think it is too early to tell. The early K04 cars did not make anywhere near what some recent K04 setups are making, a little time to understand the turbo's capabilities has led to some decent improvements in the past.

You can run any turbo without a bottom end build. Your just limited to 20lbs of boost or less if you don't want to bend the rods.
Flyboy's right, you need to decide what you want or better yet how much are you willing to spend?
If you want something better than k03's without breaking the bank then look for a used k04 fueling system and go with k04's or similar turbo.
If want everything you can get (and have the money) then go the custom route with built bottom end, valve train and fueling system. Someone should be able to comment on how much this path would cost as theirs been quite a few cool builds.
Keep in mind that if you want more than 450 hp (beyond k04's) your looking at considerable money and a different driving experience. More lag and higher engine revs to hit those big numbers.
