Default how do you remove the sliding tray asembly below the climate control?

THe previous owner spilled something sticky and the tray has a hard time sliding out. I figured I would remove it and thoroughly clean it. How do I remove the assembly? Thank you.

I did this once for the same reason and it didn't fix too much. The spring mechanism gets worn out. Regardless, if you pop the tray out and remove the plastic ashtray part I think you can unclip the tray from the slider and take the whole thing out.

don, you sure do know a hell of a lot about these cars!! Thanks a ton for all your help. I have removed the ashtray, but cant figure out how to unclip the assembly. GOt any tips for me there? I have remove the trim piece, but that doesnt help. So far I found 3 quarters, 3 penneis and a nickel under the track. I have a feeling that even if I clean out the back of it, the spring might be worn out. Any idea what that ashtray assembly costs without the trim piece? Or hve a part number?

Haha - I'm not sure about how much I know, I'm more often wrong than right but at least when I'm wrong it prompts Complacentsee to point out my error by posting the right answer. I guess I'm more a catalyst for information than the actual source

I forget how I unclipped it, is there some sort of thing on the slides you can push on? I couldn't find the ashtray listed on the ecs tuning website and they have one of the best OEM parts lists I know of.

If I recall, you need to remove the climate controls to get access to the screws holding the ashtray in.

To remove the climate controls you need to remove the radio.

I remember I looked into replacing it some time ago and the dealer wanted something stupid like 300 for it. As it turned out, getting the loose change out from under it fixed the problem. I make sure to keep my change in the little dish next to the e-brake instead now.

Damn, it's like a spiral of f--k! To remove the radio you have to remove the...

...and 20 hours later you're sitting there with crankshaft in your lap and you still can't get to the screw holding the damn ashtray in!

Get all the debris out that you can and use some WD-40 on the slider to dissolve the sugar-glue. Might get lucky.
