Dealer put in 20-50W oil. Should I be concerned?
I know theat the oil topic has been hashed out for a while here and I really haven't paid too much attention to it. Here is the deal:
I get my car back and notice it says Valvoline 20-50. I ask the service manager why they put that in instead of the 5-30 that the owner's manual recommends. He stated that they only use 2 types of oil 20-50 for the summer and 15-45 in the winter. This has been their practice for 30 years so he says.
I ask if should I be concerned since winter is coming and I have a car full of their so called "summer oil." He says no. He also said that if I have any problems starting the car or hard cranking to bring it back and they will switch it for me.
Should I just leave it or am I going to starve the turbos in cold weather? Should I go buy my own oil and ask them to change it for me at no charge? I am leasing the car so if it gets messed up it is their fault.
Any advice is appreciated.

Re: Dealer put in 20-50W oil. Tell him to read the mfg recommendations!!! Tolerances on engines
have changed a LOT in thirty years. Ask your service manager how many turbochargers he serviced thirty years ago.
Check the results in the Audizone site regarding a higher incidence of turbo failure with heavier oil if you need more reason to switch.

Your dealer knows nothing of S4 turbo troubles and revised turbo part numbers!!!!
5 of the 15 respondents to DonP's turbo survey that used 15w50 or 20w50 oil have had turbo failures with their 2.7T. While unscientific, this is a 33% failure rate.
Oil is not a "one fits all" for all cars, not even all Audis!!!

Mark, this must be Dave Strong? I would be very concerned...
I would be afraid to run the car with that oil. Too bad some people on AW know more about this than the service guy at that dealership. Whether you or they pay for it, change the oil. I think you run a serious risk of turbo failure with that sticky goo in there. Personally, I would use synthetic, but that's up to you. I would bring the oil and politely insist that they change it.
