How to remove lift pump?
I bumped into this problem when i noticed while doing a fuel pressure test, that my fuel pressure was a bit high.. Stock should be 4 BAR without vacuum and about 3,5 with vacuum? I was getting about 4,3 BAR with vacuum and 4,7 without. Replacing pressure regulator didnt help so i decided to check the return line for clog. Blowing into the return line seemed hard and there was lot of resistance.
So i concluded there must be some clog. I tested the engine with return line inside tank removed and i noticed a drop in fuel pressure, it was now 4 BAR with vacuum and 4,5 without. Still a bit more than what it should be but obviously some resistance from the return system inside the tank.
So i tried to remove the return lines but it seems they run to the other side of the tank where should be a "lift pump" to equalize the tank fuel level?
It's very hard to see or reach where this pump is, has anyone pulled it and if so how it can be done?
I'm thinking it has to be the lift pump causing excess resistance to fuel flow.. Since all the lines seem fine and no kinks..
Other thing i'm wondering is could the fuel pressure be excessive because of a better flowing fuel pump installed by a previous owner..? I remember he said it was.
