I also recently totalled my 2000 s4, that's the going price
Insurance was USAA, and they happily added in sales tax and 60% of exhaust, the only thing I had done within the last year. It had suspension and lots of other goodies. The settlement price was the same as yours. Made a good downpayment to the new S4...

Purchased: 2001.5 6sp Avant, 47k miles, great condition, $18.5k.
