I want 104 octane for occasional use. Should I buy VP109 for ~$13/gal or mix my own: 25% toluene +

If you don't have a race gas program, 100 oct is fine. Most pump programs can only adapt ~+6 oct.

Default That's a damn good deal

cheapest I had found in OC was Sunoco GT104 for ~$45. And that was a few mos. ago...I'm sure they've gone up since gas prices went up again.

Default Why not? I have used it - what has been your experience?

I did a fair amount of looking into Torco Accelerator before using it myself and most people who have actually used it had good things to say about it. The only negative is it leaves an orange residue on your plugs. Some say it fouls your plugs, O2 sensors and catalytic converters, but most of those who use it haven't had that experience and neither have I.

I'm on my third case and it's the best solution I've found thus far - no messy toluene mixing, no hard to find and expensive race gas - I just pour in a bottle with 10 gallons, turn-on my 104 race gas program and go. I have yet to notice any ill effects. I use it about every other weekend. It works out to about $5/gallon when mixed with 93 at the pump.

Default i'm not here to argue it. go to any university and ask an organic chemist to calculate your octane

it is not what you think it is

Clearly you are here to argue. Just not to elaborate on your views.

Default That's assuming you know what I think it is.

The real test is whether I can run my race gas program using it without pre-detonation and knocking and does it harm my engine. On both counts, based on results from people who actually use Torco, it seems to perform very well. In my case, my S4 runs very strong with it and I have not had any negative effects.

Whether a chemist can appreciably measure the octane rating doesn't really matter to me. The real question is `does it work' - for me it does.
