On my '00 Stage 3 S4, I went with Ecodes and upgraded to 55-watt Xenon bulbs. Makes a HUGE difference. My mom rode with me once and we were joking saying, "...wow - so THAT'S what that sign says."

Seriously, the stock 35-watt standard Xenon bulbs, even when new, just don't cut it no matter what Audi says.

Extra on the Ecodes and 55-watt bulbs: I also went with, and highly recommend, using 6000K bulbs. They light things up very nicely, and the color of the lights themselves when looking at the car from the outside isn't over the top gaudy. It looks very professional.

I'm almost done with all of the Stage 3 mods planned on this car now. Pretty much just have suspension, bigger anti-swaybars, and a Big Brake kit left. I hope to do everything but the brakes in a few weeks.

Major Kudos to Avalon Motorsports in Denver for a smokin build and all their advice! I now drive an extremely fast, gorgeous looking, and well-balanced B5 S4!

List of mods and pics are available to view in My Garage.

It's your actual lens in the headlight thats worn out, I had mine changed with the TSX-R lens and new D2S bulbs and it made a huge dif. to the point of not needing to upgrade to 55W.

I'm deployed so not sure as to my exact mileage but I think it's around 145 now.

Here is a cool shot on New Year's Eve

I've driven an S5 at night with stock (35W) lights. I agree the state of the lens does indeed make a big difference, and to the point of certainly being adequate. You'll definitely notice it and it's certainly a less expensive alternative.

Not having your lights working properly is also a pretty serious safety issue. Out-running your headlights is NOT fun. Voice of experience speaking here (fortunately no damage as a result - just a pretty good scare).

...But the 55W bulbs and Ecodes (which also have new lenses), is still much better than stock IMO. I also like the look that comes with getting rid of that amber turn-signal lens. I can easily tell in city traffic what my car is lighting up compared to everyone else. And I've been out in the country late at night close to a new moon. Out there, what they lit up was both amazing and very comforting. So I'm going to keep mine... :-)

How do you like the coilovers? I'm about to do a set of KW V1s and a Hotchkiss anti-swaybar set. Hope to have the installed by sometime in August (saving my pennies...).
