Honestly these shot in the dark guesses are the only way its going to click and become apparent as to where it goes.
The car is all together now. Three timing belt remove-installs in a few weeks is all I can handle. I have heard some rattling somewhere in there, but I almost need to start in 3rd gear to shake the engine enough to bring it out. I can hear some mid-high pitched metal on light metal vibrations. Although, I did bend the heat shield on the pass. side a little getting the air box in maybe that's the rattle. I just want to drive it before winter.

I don't know if this is the same bolt as the one I left out.
If you go to the very last picture in this page for step D16, you will see what it looks like with the water pump out, and the tensioner removed. I removed one too many bolts when removing the water pump. I removed the bolt you can see just below where the water pump would be, just above and to the left of the roller. I think it is might be the same size as yours.
There is also a bolt behind the roller itself that is around that same size.

These bolts hold on an oil cover on the front of the engine. I got an oil leak from there that ran down the front of the engine past the front seal. I thought I needed a new front seal, then found out it was just this missing bolt. So if you start seeing oil dripping off the front of your engine, you might have made my same mistake.

I believe the bolt you mention is in the below photos. I was worried that it would be one of those bolts; that's why I did the TB job 3 times. I was particularly worried about the WP bolts or other bolts behind/around it. Eventually I got smart and took pictures; so I didn't have to go off of memory anymore. I believe all of the bolts for the WP and front oil cover have a REVIFA marking on the head. My mystery bolt says DERA 8.8; same marking (different length) as the 3 tensioner bolts.
After 400 miles I haven't noticed any oil or coolant leaks yet.
The mystery bolt is virtually identical to the bolt holding the crank plug in (metal/coating is different). If you look up that bolt's PN in ETKA it is N0902612. ECS replaced that part with N0902619; which has a photo that looks identical to my mystery bolt. I have found what I believe to be all N0902612/9's in the car. I don't think Scooby Doo and gang could solve this mystery even if the bolt had a zombie mask on.
