Looking for new car
So I'm looking for a new car and really want a b5 s4 avant. However I keep hearing about the timing belt issue and how that can be very pricey and this could happen at any moment. But does this only happen with the s-line? Would it be safer getting the 1.8t, 2.0t or the 3.0 a4 avant? Do they have the same issues ?

All engines that use a timing belt have the same approximate life span - they should be replaced along with the tensioners and water pump about every 75K miles or 7 years or so whichever comes first. The cost can run anywhere from $1200-$1800. You need to check the service records for any older, higher mileage car you are considering to see if and when it was last done. If a timing belt goes, it can result in very expensive engine repairs i.e. destroyed valves, etc., often exceeding the value of an older car.
