I too went down to Monterey for the weekend to see the new S4 again; the sales person there told me that the cars would not be released until the "middle of september/early october" This seems to coincide with what my Audi dealer in San Jose told me. He said that the way a new release works is that the dealer gets flown to a testing conference/drive to be able to check the car out and then they are able to sell the cars about a week later. My dealer is scheduled to drive the s4 in Los Angeles on Septmeber 22nd, so unfortunately, yes, it does look like the first week of october. What are these guys doing???? Anyone interested in a trip to Germany to buy a car over there and bring it back... seems like we might get them faster.

My dealer confirm that to me as well that they were going to Nazareth race track in September to test drive all the Y2K cars.
