Motor has a slight knock from the botton end !@$@!!#^&%#.. I hate random crap
I started my car up yesterday, after it sitting for a long period of time (hasnt been turned over in abut 4-5 months). I noticed the knocking intially but was hoping it was just a lifter that need to build up and get some oil on it. After the car running for a few minutes. the CEL began blinkig, nd it read for the throttle positioning sensor. This obviously was not causing the knock sound. I took a video but the sounds are so scrambled it isnt worth posting.
I dont understand what would cause it to just randomley start knocking? It sounds like a rod bearing. Anyone have an idea of what it would cost to have the bearing replaced and a new crank if so? goooooooooooooooood this sucks

I had this happen on my '87 Scirocco 16V - the rod bearing's face was worn down and pitted....
....as if moisture or acid in the oil had settled there and was allowed to sit for a long time (suspect previous owner let it sit with dirty and/or moisture-filled oil, perhaps from short-trip driving).
I was able to simply drop the oil pan, find the loose rod end, and replace the bearing - the rod had not yet beaten itself out of round. 30K miles later still no problem when I sold it.
I don't know if there is enough room for you to drop the pan with the motor in the car to see what's going on, maybe someone else can chime in (not sure if the sub-frame gets in the way in the rear).
