run your hand / clean rug around the outter/lower edges of the heads
esp the rear corners , and take a peak there and see if it's wet .. you can also start it with the hood open and see if there is smoke coming out and what's the spot .
i had the when the cam tensioner/valve cover went on pass side and slight smoke came out from under the MAF area. oil was dripping off the very back corner of the head on the hot exh mani.

Only because I had a wire harness fry. Pull the light switch from the dash and smell the switch
or look for evidance of melted wire insulation. There were some issues with this in other cars as well.

whoa that must have been some crazy bad alignment to smell, I almost don't believe that...
if it were bad enough to smell you would also more than likely hear that tire screeching or scrubbing something fierce. I would make sure you don't have a plastic bag caught somewhere or the 'usual' RMS leak dripping onto hot pipes somewhere, or trans fluid. That smells worse than when oil burns, more plasticky IMO.

Normal for a 30V engine, unfortunately. Only one or two drops of oil burning can stink up the cabin
It's one of the following: cam covers (valve covers), cam adjuster seals, upper oil pan. Synthetic oil smells just like burning plastic. Had this happen 7 times between 2 30V engines. It could be something plastic, but the reality is that all 30V engines will leak and fill the cabin with burning smell at some time. Is the smell the strongest when the heater is on and car is not moving or going slowly and then goes away if you are on the highway? Pretty much classic leaking engine seals situation.

Re: Dude, all S4 owners trip. I'm trippin and nothing is wrong. About the burning....
I have the same problem. Today 2 drops of oil hit the floor, I jacked up the car and looks like somewhere above driver side turbo. I just bought the car 2 weeks ago, so I took it back to the dealer to have them look at it so I can try and get it covered under warranty. By the way my car is a 2001 S4 quattro V6 biturbo. This is my first audi so Im new to the german car thing. Last car was a honda. I will keep you posted on what the problem turns out to be.

BTW all cam seals valve cover gaskets were changed, along with the timing belt back in october.

Normally any leaks from the turbo spells disaster...
But I've discovered that leaking oil from the valve cover gasket may eventually make its way to the turbo so on first glance it might seem to come from it. BTW, my driver's side turbo dripped a couple of drops a week for 3 years before it blew...now that I read that, I'm not sure if it sounds reassuring. Good luck.
