Default My mechanic want to replace the cartridges in my blown K04's.

He believes this is the best alternitve to both replacing the whole turbos and having them rebuilt.

Has anyone ever done this before?

What are the pro's and con's for doing this?

Default How did they blow?

First figure that out - they're pretty robust turbos, not too many failures from stuff other than external factors or running stupid boost.

Rebuilt turbos won't be as reliable as new OEM turbos - I don't care what anyone else says. It's too much of a PITA and expen$ive to cheap out when replacing turbos on this car. Sorry to hear about your turbos. If they are under 1 year old, you may be able to have them warrantied.

Default "replacing the cartridges" = having them rebuilt...

maybe what he is saying is cheaper, because a full rebuild replaces the seals and ****...a turbo rebuild is not something to cheap out on on this car...WAY too much labor is involved to take the turbos out. i sent my blown ko4 to jacob for a rebuild and its been solid for a little over a year now...

Default Not true..CHRA is a new Compressor Housing Rotating Assembly....

Much better than rebuilt. IMHO this is the safest bet!!!

Default The MAF went bad and caused them to blow I guess.

I am so busy with work and school these days that I havent had time to really look into it in depth. But that is what my mechanic has told me thus far.

Default I do not have too much turbo knowledge... Can the CHRA simply be bolted in and out?

Or does it require some kind of machine to balance and level the new CHRA?

Sorry to hear- you might want to figure out what caused them to blow so you don't lose another one.

Default I appreciate your sympathy. I am going back to stock injectors, intake and software.

Hopefully that will avoid any more problems until I can get a chance to go down to EPL.
