Need help. Can't track down root cause of moving misfire
Car: 02 Stg 3 Tip running custom ASP code
Where I'm at now: misfire under load. normal cruising is fine, as soon as I put the pedal down a bit hard, i get misfires, most times resulting in the flashing CEL.
History: misfires started without me having changed anything on the car. It used to be just on cylinder 1. We then started replacing things: all plugs, and by now - all coil packs. As we replaced the later, the misfire started moving to other cylinders, but not predictably either, meaning in some cases the misfire just moved, but it didn't directly move to the oldest coilpack, for example.
I also tried swapping the ignition amps, and no changes happened at that time (misfire was on 1, swapped amps, misfire still on 1). I haven't replaced these, and starting to think I just replace them for the sake of knowing for sure. Checked for boost leaks, too.
Someone suggested there may be something wrong with the ECU and recommended reflashing (no soldering done on this ECU) to see if that does it. I'm no expert, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to me intuitively that the software just went bad? If I go down this route, should I just be getting an entirely new ECU and have it flashed with my custom file?
Have others experienced this? Other ideas on what I should try?
Thanks for the help,
