New Car, Which ECU Upgrade Do I Have?
Hello, I am a new owner of a 2000 audi s4. The other night I installed AWE's boost gauge. As I went for test drive, I noticed under wot that the boost was reading 15-17 psi. I am assuming this is not stock since it is way above the stock boost levels. Many other upgrades were installed by another owner and are mostly AWE Parts, that being said I am assuming that the chip is probably a GIAC s model chip (17psi peak) and not the newer x version(20psi peak). I know there is also APR,Neuspeed, MTM etc. Is their any way to tell w/o physically opening the ecu? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Open up your ECU and look at it. Post up a pic and report back. By the way, GIAC-X will vary from 17-18 psi peak to 20+ psi peak, depending on SW version. I ran GIAC-X and GIAC 3- for many years.

Yeah that car definitely has software if it's running at 15-17psi (stock being 8psi). If it was done before the previous owner bought the car then it's probably the older setup with a physical chip that was soldered into the ECU.
My APR software spikes to 17-18psi but maxes out at a steady 15-16psi. An easy way to check if it has APR software (assuming this will work if it doesn't have more than 1 program) is to hold the cruise control button in with the ignition turned to on, but the not running and if the check engine light starts flashing I think that's a pretty good indicator that you've got APR software.
Didn't the previous owner tell you which software was installed? If not I'd call them and ask them.
FYI I'm pretty sure that GIAC-X doesn't spike past 17 or 18psi. Call AWE to be sure, they'll know.
