Is this an off-topic forum? Because it sure seems like it.

Thoughts...
I've been a big member in many on line auto discussion groups, the biggest being here, HondaTech.com, and Honda-Acura.net.
Before doing anything the smart user lurks for a while. You have to figure out who the smart people are, who the people are with the short fuses, and who the jokesters are. Once you've figured that out, you'll have a great time on a message board.
Around here, especially here, there are all 3. There are certian posters who ALWAYS provide good information, are always helpful, and don't joke around. There are others that give good info, but will mess with ya. There are $h!t talkers in here too...
Figure out the landscape, and then deal with them. You'll be much happier.

I don't think we'd have nearly as many people if this forum was "strictly business".
Part of what makes this place so desirable is that it's a community that has fun, and learns at the same time.
I have no idea why things are so confusing for you. What kinds of questions do you have that you can't find answers to?

Honestly, the signal to noise ratio is a little low...
Part of the reason for that is that these forums have become communities...as such, people will eventually bring off topic content into them.
If you think it's bad now, it was worse, and the moderators have been working hard to improve the situation. Personally, I come here less and less. If I need something, I'll search (and search, and search) because almost anything I could want to know has been answered in the archives. It takes some tweaking to get the right keywords into the search engine to find what you're looking for...and even then you'll have to scroll through a ton of posts to find what you want. The point is, forget about what life is like on Mars or any other forum...if you need info, it's here, you just have to put the time into it.

Look, lets get something straight.
I'm not outright bashing the forum. There WERE members that helped me and led me to the answers. I'm offering my experiences as a noob, that many of you guys seem to have forgot, and was point out WHY I had difficulty, in hopes of improving it. I'm not the last noob to ever sign onto these forums.
What other contributions can I make as noob?
