Oil pan question. STFA's showed conflicting info...
So it's leaking...nothing new. Finally getting around to fixin it. Soo, the lower pan uses the gasket ONLY and the upper pan uses the white silicone paste? Does that sound right?

Lower uses the paste too, oem was a gasket.

Just the paste, no gasket! My oem lower oil pan gasket started leaking ............
about 9 months ago. It was replaced with just the goopy white stuff and has not leaked since. The stuff in the picture is what is used now in lieu of the gasket. Use the exact stuff in the picture! There is a "cure" time associated with the sealant, but I don't remember what it is.
