Possible S4 project
#11
Well, I'm setup to meet and see the car on Saturday -
I can honestly say that I am both excited and apprehensive at the same time......
I'm the type of person who needs a project going most of the time - the best part for me is learning through these projects.
One side of me says to stay with the TDI's that I know about - then the other side says it's time to try something new.
If everything is as he says it is with the car, and he is willing to make the even trade, I think I am going to go for it.
I've done as much research as I can to this point - trying to make an informed decision - and certainly appreciate the help I've been given here so far. If I get the car, I'll likely be on here a lot with lots of questions, and will document the build.
I've never even driven an Audi before......!!

It sounds like a B5 S4 may be perfect for you if you always need a project going....so many upgrades possible.
Here's a vid for motivation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSAbsfziia8

Well, I guess this one wasn't meant to be...
After a lot of research and consideration, I passed on this one.
While the car is in great shape other than the wreck damage, after adding up some numbers, it just wouldn't be financially feasible.
My trade like I state above is my '98 Jetta TDI - in great condition, and real world value of $3K.
So I have 3K into the car - the labor of putting it together, plus more money in minor parts, A/C charge, coolant, etc.
Then to end up with an 'R' title, the car would only be worth ~$3500.
Also, he said he just did the timing belt - when I asked him if the belt was broken when he got it (broke during wreck), he was a little vague....I know that if that belt broke while the engine was running - even if it runs now, it could easily have damaged a valve or 2 which would show its ugly head in a couple thousand miles.
So I walked away from this one -
Thanks for all the input folks - I will now crawl gracefully back to the TDIClub forums for now.
