Default S4 tuning/chips etc.

hello everyone, i went and harassed my audi dealer today trying to find a date of delivery of my S4. I then spoke to an Audi Fleet Manager about ECU upgrades for the S4. "off the record" he told me, the S4 with MTM chip only (no intake or anything else) was up in the 320-330 hp range with 400bhp torque. Said he was personally dusting M5's in Germany. So, for less than 1000 bucks.... maybe the new M3 isn't going to be such a great deal afterall. Just thought everyone might like to know.

Default Euro chip info

If Audi can make their 1.8 reliable at 225hp, and the S4 engine is exactly 50% larger.....
then 330+ should be reasonable, right?

Here are 3 sites with chips for the Euro S4:

http://www.hs-elektronik.com/datenblatt/audis4-265ps.html

http://212.227.54.20/fzg/ukaudis4.html

http://www.tap1.com/models/S4tt/

Hopefully we won't ahve to wait too long for US-version mods!
(If we do, maybe we can change to Euro ECU, and use Euro chip?)

Default for the record... engine size doesn't necessarily equate to HP.. Not always a 1:1 ratio.

I'm not disputing 320+ hp, but please realize that because the engine is 50% larger does not necesarily mean the motor makes 150% of the power of the 1.8T. Boost is different, and compression is different, I believe.
my 2 cents

Default MTM chip info

yes, 330+ HP is quite capable, but for reliability, the U.S. chip will be 295hp, and the Euro chip is 306HP. MTM is currently working on a 400+hp kit,and i'm told it is outrageously quick.
With an exhaust system, the US versions should be pushing 315hp with gobs of low-end torque.

Default Call APR (www.goapr.com) - they'd love to tell you about it...

The short story is the "chip" is a replacement memory chip containing the program for the Engine Control Unit. There are all kinds of factors that the computer can make different decision on than the factory program happens to select. Especially on modern engines with variable valve & ignition timing.

On turbos though, the biggest factor is to tell the turbo to put out more pressure, which I believe is done by raising the pressure at which the wastegate opens. In a sense, chipping a turbo can give you as much advantage as "turboing a non-turbo."
