Default Is there a "new generation" of headlights? (clear corner mod gone wrong... help?)

Got my headlights stolen last summer, and got them replaced. Now I'm trying the CC mod using a soldering iron. I've melted and broken enough plastic to make myself severely impaired and the insert doesn't even budge at all. It feels like it's still very much attached... epoxied to the reflector?

Any help would be much appreciated.. ..

Default just a guess but...

by using the soldering gun you may have melted the yellow lens to the housing...

Default

I used a soldering pencil to get through the black plastic. You shouldn't be melting the insert.

Default ugh- sorry it's not going well!

Trying to pull out the reflector with the needle nose pliers was all that worked for me.

Also- I assume you just used the soldering iron to melt holes to REACH the plastic tabs, which you then have to break with a screwdriver.... if you try to melt the tabs, they will just melt to the housing itself and get stuck.

If worse comes to worse, button it back up and I can help this week/weekend.

Default Part II. Second light is finished. MUCH better.

Right. So for some reason I had it in my head to solder through the tabs.

This is d-u-m DUM. So. Need to try to drill out the melty tabs.

2nd light looks great for some one who doesn't have a an idea about what they're doing. You all would probably think it looks like total amateur hour (you'd be right), but I'm amped. Even painted the bulb "stealthy" until I buy the real stealthy ones.

Default Part III. Second insert out. This one's gonna be ugly.

Lessons learned.

a) there is no "new generation". Only stupidity.
b) don't use the soldering gun to melt through the tabs. Sounds good, but isn't. Use the soldering gun to melt some holes, then go to town with a drill/screw driver. Go all the way through the tabs until you FEEL the insert free up a bit.

thanks for your help, AW, as always.
