Took my door lock pump apart. Pretty obvious what the problem was...
See my earlier thread from today to see what the symptoms were. I VAGged the central lock system and found 01367 - central locking pump runtime exceeded (likely leak).
So, I located the pump, hit the remote a few times, and confirmed that it still had power (could hear the mechanical sounds trying to do something). Checked some of the visible hoses for leaks, but didn't find any. So, I pulled the pump out and decided to take a peek inside.
Popped off the cream colored top, pryed up the circuit board, removed the three screws holding the cylinder thingy together, and removed the top layer. Here's what I found:

See all those broken pieces inside of the outer ring? Doesn't look right... Dumped it all out, and look at all of the pieces:

Some kind of residue is all over my hands now - seems like it might be graphite? Here's the bottom plate:

So, if I could find a way to replace the thing that broke from the center of the two plates and the outer ring, I should be in business. Any ideas? The wear patterns on the plates seem to indicate that this thing is supposed to spin around inside. Maybe the friction somehow generates the vacuum? I don't even know what this thing was supposed to look like when new.
I have a feeling that I'm going to get stuck buying a new part, though...

LOL!
Funny how this works...you look at it, it's so simple, but where the hell are you gonna find a piece that you can substitute. Your brain says "I'm not paying $500 just because of one tiny little broken bit"...and a week later, you're spending $500. Call some of the places in my parts thread, and see if they can get it for less.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/1960796.phtml</a

I pieced together all of the broken bits, and they form a disc...
with four rectangular plates radiating out from center. I think the disc is plastic, and the four rectangular plates are what is rubbing on the top/bottom plates. I tried putting it back together without the broken disc in there, but that didn't do any good.

Wow! OWK...if you end up finding the part...can you get some extras?
This failure is pretty common on older A4's, and will eventually be pretty common here. Great link TipSter!!!
