Default I agree - seems like newer cars are moving to 'lifetime' ATF...maybe

b/c they consider the life cycle of the car to be ~ 8 yrs

Might also ask how they are installing the TC - during my research for my rebuild I had someone tell me the TC should be installed w/the tranny verticle so as to not put any undue pressure on the TC seal (yes, the infamous TC seal) during installation. I have not confirmed the merit/ validity of this approach. I would be interested to know what answer they give you, and perhaps Cole knows...

Default That's a good question. The whole reason I'm getting it replaced is that stupid little seal.. lame

I'll ask them about the vertical installation.

Default PROPER way to install Torque Converter: (doesnt have to be verticle)

the proper way to install the TC is real simple you push the TC onto spline, give a push till its all the way down, then turn it while applying pressure so you get it on the 2nd set of spline, give another push. then just take a ruler and measure the eyes of the TC to the end of the bell housing to verify its 22-24mm not ~13mm if you only at ~13mm that means its not seated properly.

Trust me i installed this myself, not heard from someone, or read somewhere, and my brother is a VW tech he can confirm as well. installing it verticle is just ridiculis i never even heard of that. most important part is MEASURE.

the "eyes" are the 3 mounting plate for the pressure plate at the front of the TC, there is a pic of them here 7 pics down:

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2643379/5</a
