Are you referring to ratings as a whole or ratings based on crash test/ safety results?

Default I'm sure you're right. I was just thinking... heavier car = heavier material used to make the car

Yeah, I guess you're right. I was just thinking if the car is heavier then the materials used to make the car are more likely to be stronger/heavy duty. Thus the idea that the heavier the car the safer you would be in the event of an accident. But as you stated, "engineering is what really matters... so is the Accord safer?" I would have to agree. Engineering > curb weight
