A4 to S6 upgrade. What to expect?

Here's an interesting comment I read in a 2016 x6 review today:
" If you’re the type of person who follows all the rumour and tech sites, watching for news about the next iPhone so you can strategically plan your next upgrade, you’ll want to wait for the next-gen Audi A6. It’ll be all-new.
But, if you’re the sort who prefers something tried and tested, something at the end of its product cycle, with all the kinks already ironed out, this is the A6 to get.

Unfortunately, I fall into the first category but I'm not looking forward to waiting for the 2017 launch of the new A6. However, the A6 rendering in the link below looks awesome and depending on how accurate it is, may be worth the wait:

Equally optioned (almost loaded) the S6 is $14k more than the Prestige A6 3.0T.
What you get:
-4.0T engine...almost every motor upgrade step is roughly ($6000) 2.0T to 3.0.T... 3.0T to 4.0T one might argue the 3.0T to 4.0T step might be closer to $7000
-Air suspension sport...in Europe air suspension (non-sport) can be ordered as an option on the A6 and is about 1600EUR ($1800)
-rear sport diff ($1000)
-sport seats...it shouldn't cost anything because you are swapping one seat for another at time of manufacture, but typically sport seats are around ($500). (Plus there is the bump in leather quality over the standard seats)
-Lighted S6 door sills...($500 estimate)
-rear lip spoiler ($200)
-Brakes - Much larger, multi-piston variety again as a swap at time of manufacture maybe ($1000)
-S6 badge ... ($3000) Unfortunately that is sort of what it comes down to. Why is an A7/S7 more expensive than an A6/S6...because it can be. Why is the RS7 $30k more than an S6?
I mean you have different ancillaries like different wheel types between A6 and S6 but the vast majority of what you are paying for is the engine. Is the 3.0T fantastic...yes it is, but the 4.0T is more fantastic.
Also bear in mind I'm talking retail pricing. Nothing says you cannot get a fantastic deal on an S6 when perhaps they won't budge on an A6, but that is unlikely since hugely more numbers of A6's sell than S6's.
FWIW since you are coming from the A4 2.0T the 3.0T A6 for 2016 will be a significant step up in performance since it now has the 333HP variant from the S4.

You're not alone - I think there are many that won't like the 2017 A6 change - for Audi the change is quite significant. Maybe that makes buying a 2016 S6 a better investment. Unfortunately, I expect that purchasing the last model year in a generation will result in faster depreciation and some element of buyer's remorse.

Hasn't Audi's strategy in the last MY of a generation been to maintain sales volume by releasing the RS model. Unfortunately, in North America, I don't believe an RS6 is available.
I might be trying to talk myself out of a 2016 S6, but another reason to wait for 2017 might be access to the Matrix LED headlamps. At least in Canada, the Govt. hasn't approved them yet, but I expect that will be accomplished shortly - this is an innovative technology that makes sense.
Sadly - despite being on the verge of replacement, the S6 is still one of the best options out there and fits my requirements. I view the following as the major competition in this space: 5-Series, Cadillac V-Sport, and MB C63 but they either don't have AWD yet are about to be refreshed as well (BMW). This is making the decision difficult.

Again IMHO the S6 is 90% of the RS model and with a tune and a few suspension mods 100%+ for $30k less.
One could argue the same between a prestige A6 and an S6 but the gap there is half as much as between the S and RS.

I also like the flair(?) on the sides. Much different than the current lower doors.
But, I am assuming 2017 is for EU model year and that would mean 2018 here. Not sure I want to wait 2.5 years for it.

I'm definitely not waiting 2.5 years.

2016 was an exception since the re-fresh was done on the EU schedule. I wouldn't expect the new A6 to be sold in the U.S. for at least 2.5 more years. Going on sale mid-2017 as a MY2018 is a safe bet.
