Unfortunately I have read many cases here on AudiWorld, and started a list.

Here are some additional reports of fuel leaks on the 3.0T engine on the A7 forum:

Four people in the same thread:

I haven't read all the posts so maybe someone has already mentioned this. If so, I apologize. Does anybody think this problem is what happened to Dick Van Dyke's Jaguar a few weeks ago?

No. Jaguars undergo spontaneous combustion. Fuel leak not required.

Interesting to see that this issue is not limited to just the S6 models. Even if this problem affects only a limited number of vehicles, Audi needs to find a permanent fix quickly. This is not the type of problem that Audi would want to languish in the marketplace.

I would be willing to bet that Audi is way ahead of you on this. No car manufacturer wants to drag their feet on a safety related issue. However, these things take some time to properly diagnose, find a fix and if needed, design and test a new prototype part, have it manufactured and get it distributed to dealers for a recall or TSB. If it's not a part that's needed, but instead an install modification, it will go quicker. The same would be true if the failed part was a short run defect although Audi may still need to have a larger quantity of the part manufactured.

I'm thinking it's the fuel. Ethanol content or summer blend could be possible, given the area and regions where these S6 and 3.0TFSI models are having leaks.

I don't want to speculate, but I'm sure that Dick's Jag XJ probably sits in the garage for days before he ventures onto the crazy 101. Do S6 owners with fuel leaks drive daily?

There's gotta be some correlation going on...

I'm thinking that it's the combination of the much higher fuel pressure required by the relatively new direct fuel injection and either a defect in a batch of parts or a design deficiency in the fuel line parts.

There may be leaks reported in other automotive makes that use direct fuel injection. If the cause was ethanol in the fuel, I would expect it to reported by the media.

Anybody else notice that the fuel line in question is right next to the airbox?

Seems fine for the stock airbox as it's sealed off up to the front of the grille, but I got about half way through installing my new intake before I realized if that thing blows, it's likely to spray fuel directly on the cone filter.

Could be very very bad if those fumes get sucked all the way though the intake tract up to the spark plugs, no?

Sure, it would mean that you'll be running rich and power will plummet. Seriously, if the worst that happens is that the fuel ignites within the combustion chamber, you're golden.

I was thinking more like it backfires, catches the fuel-soaked cone filter on fire, which is being sprayed by the fuel line.
