Early 2000's 2.7TT V6 they used in the S4's had many, many issues with blown turbos (non-tuned). I had two different 2001 S4's and was pretty active on AW back then and remember always holding my breath worrying about my car to blow. Because of that, I never tuned either of those two cars. I previously had the 1.8T A4 which was APR tuned and I never had an issue.

I owned a B5 S4 that was heavily modded. The issue with the turbos was due to the oil flow. In any case, I am referring more to the engine blowing. A blown turbo, relatively speaking, is a cheap fix. I had over 30,000 miles on my chipped S4 with K03's then another 36,000 miles with K04's. Zero issues, and I drove the car quite hard.

Definitely tune your car if you haven't already. I have not been in a drag race (at the track) that I have lost yet. Vettes, mustangs with nitrous and drag radials, bmw 335s, etc etc. I'll post a couple vids from this past weekend after I edit them.
