This squeal is really loud in our Q5 and you can feel it in the steering wheel. I reported it to the SR and he said that this is normal being that the brakes are metallic. He put me on a "list" of some sort. I have never had a car make a noise like this.

Now that temps are dropping, I'm also getting terrible brake squeal (didn't have it last winter). It's a bit hard to isolate, but I *think* it's the fronts. I'm at ~23k, and took a look at the pads when I swapped in my winter setup: plenty of life left.

There was a TSB for my B8 S4 for this issue; just curious if anyone's heard anything about one for the C7?

Glad this got brought up again. The last three weeks (since temps dropped in Chicago) have been terrible. I've been in contact with AofA and will bring the car in on Friday to discuss options.

When I got to the same point with my S4, they ended up putting the pads from the S5 and things got better.

The explanation I got was that the metallic pads they use can leave a film on the rotor, which then creates the noise. This wonderful little nugget is straight from Customer Care:
"Frequent, aggressive brake application increases the wear of the brake components and can reduce the potential for brake noise. Frequent, light brake application allows glazing to develop on the brake surface, which increases the potential for brake noise."

So I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't.
