Default Buying new S6 (2015)

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the site, but wanted to get some feedback from others. I am buying a 2015 S6 and was curious about two issues:

1. Ground Clearance. Have any of you had issues dealing with this? I'm in the Northeast, so we have hills, etc. I'm concerned that I'm going to bottom out a lot (I've been coming from an SUV for many years).

2. Car comes with 20" - wondered what people have done for snows? Was thinking of putting on Nokian tires either on the 20" rims or pick up an inexpensive 19" rim set with the same tires. Curious to know opinions.

Lastly, what's your general impression of the car? A great daily driver? Seems like the perfect car - great in bad weather and fantastic in the warmer months.

Thanks!

Ground clearance isn't an issue. It's not supercar low. Plus it has "raise" feature if you are truly worried as long as you are not baja driving.

I went with OE 19" for winter. Can't fit anything smaller. Definitely needed for winter.

Overall a great DD. No winter weather yet but I suspect it will be as good as past Audis.

Thanks; What's the "raise" feature?

S6 has the adaptive air suspension, which has a manual "raise" setting for clearing curbs and other parking abutments when pulling in nose first. Can also be used for pulling in and out of steeply inclined driveways.

What options, color combo are you considering?

Welcome! I have had my S6 for about six months and also live in the Northeast. I have never had an issue with ground clearance - even pulling into my driveway where there is a fairly steep (rounded) step from street level to sidewalk level, even without raising the suspension. I just be sure to stay back from parking curbs, etc. so I don't scrape the underside of my bumper.

As for snow tires, I have 20" wheels and summer tires. I wanted to get 19s for winter, but got a great deal on used 20" wheels, so went with aftermarket 20" wheels and Bridgestone Blizzak tires. I just installed them about two weeks ago and they are great. I'm a bit concerned about potholes, but just keeping my fingers crossed.

As for impressions, I LOVE this car. Best car I have ever owned. It's fast, efficient, comfortable, and looks great. I have Estoril Blue and love that it's kind of a distinct color - people at work know when I'm around.

How's the color been? I'm considering the new sepang blue (which I know isn't exactly the same as Estoril) and am slightly concerned of the extra attention it would bring (esp. from cops, etc..).

The S6 is great in the winter on winter tires. I have had no issues. No clearance issues either and have never bottomed out.

If you can get 19's it allows you more choices for tires and potentially less damage from a pothole.

amelen, the blue draws no more attention than any other car - it is all about how you drive it.

I love the color - you do see scratches a bit more with the darker color, so Sepang Blue may not have that issue as much. Because Estoril looks almost black at night, it's actually kind of discreet. In sunlight, it really pops, though. I have not noticed any law enforcement attraction to my car, and I have to confess, I don't always drive the speed limit.

I am at ~35k miles and have no real complaints during summer or Central New York winter driving. It is effortlessly faster than my (still missed) RS4, and more comfortable. The "raise" feature has proved useful in some winter parking lot issues during fishing, and at some shotgun shooting venues. I run the speed rated Blizzaks. The blue is fine, but as with black looks best only when very clean...I didn't want to wait an extra six weeks for Daytona Gray. Easily the best of my four Audimobiles.

I consider myself pretty lucky, as I've owned the 1995.5 S6, followed by a 2001 S8, then a 2005 or 2006 S6.

Save and except for the 1995.5 S6, this car is by far the first. The agility of a light-feeling car, with a bit of that turbo 'oomph', and classic audi interior.

I've never been happier with a car.
